Does Adscore detect search engine bots?

Yes, all search engine bots are correctly identified as Bot Traffic by Adscore.

While it might seem like it could have been a good idea to have a separate category of "good bots" for the search engine bots, we have decided against it.

Taking Google as an example, one of the reasons is that it makes use of both official Google Bots that identify themselves as such, respect robots.txt file etc., as well as some incognito bots, that pretend to be real human visitors, using residential connections.

It’s our assumption that Google employs this strategy in order to detect Cloaking, as well as to scan for malware (like Google SafeBrowsing).

Because of this green lighting just “good bots”, while blocking access to the other search engine bots, might result in inconsistencies that will affect the search engine ranking of your website.

So despite their intended use, these incognito bots are detected by Adscore as being Bot Traffic.
